Update Cronus Zen firmware

Use the official Cronus Web Update Tool, enter bootloader correctly, and return to normal mode.

5 min read

The current official Cronus documentation lists firmware 2.2.14, paired with Zen Studio 1.6.1 Build 82. Firmware and Vera scripts are different: firmware runs the device; a script fills one program slot. The current Vera writer requires firmware 2.3.0 or newer, and the shipped release records explicitly validate 2.3.0 and 2.3.1. A Zen left on 2.2.14 is below Vera's current writer minimum.

Normal update

  1. Close verascripts.com and any other tab connected to the Zen.
  2. Hold the small blue reset button while connecting the Zen to a Windows PC through the CONSOLE/PC USB port.
  3. Release the button when the OLED says Zen Bootloader and the LEDs glow purple/blue.
  4. Open the official Cronus Web Update Tool in Chrome or Edge and select Cronus ZEN.
  5. Install the latest version offered by the official tool and do not disconnect power.
  6. Wait for the red/green/blue LED sequence, then unplug and reconnect the Zen in normal mode.

After the update

Open the Vera flasher, connect through the right-side programming port, and confirm it reports the new firmware. Existing scripts may remain, but reinstalling the latest production build is the cleanest validation after a major firmware change.
